“Today, My daughter, for your reading you shall take chapter nineteen of Saint John’s Gospel and read it, not only with your lips, but with your heart..”

(Diary, entry 1765)

Merciful Lord, You are the Word of God, and You are fully revealed in the Scriptures and in the Tradition of the Church You established on earth. Lord, I fear that in reading the Scriptures, I will perceive very little and quickly lose the practice; help me, Lord, to listen for Your voice speaking to me in the words, and let Your divine light shine upon my life and show me those areas where I need Your mercy and Your grace.

Dear Lord, I know that “Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path” (Ps.119:105) – illuminate me, O Lord, that in Your divine light I may see myself as You see me, and – with Your divine grace – do better.

Help me, O Lord, to read Your Word with confidence and with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, to meditate deeply upon it and to allow it to sink into my heart and there, do some good.
