Re-Consecration of England and Wales to the Immaculate Heart of Mary; Cardinal Nichols solemly crowns the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in Westminster Cathedral

At Westminster Cathedral in London yesterday afternoon, Cardinal Nichols solemnly crowned the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima, and he re-consecrated England and Wales to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. You can read the original article regarding this here.

On the ‘Marian Day’ of the Year of Faith, 13th October 2013, the Cardinal was present when the Holy Father Pope Francis solemnly renewed the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, before the statue of Our Lady which had been specially brought from the Capelhina at Fatima. Immediately afterwards, the Cardinal said this –

“Devotion to Mary is not an optional ‘add-on’ to Catholic belief, but an expression of what is at the heart of our faith. To draw close to Mary is to draw close to Jesus. As the earliest Christian witnesses often taught, Mary was open to receiving Jesus in Her mind and in Her Heart before She gave birth to Him in her flesh. For this reason, She is the first of all the disciples of the Lord as She is the most faithful of all the Lord’s followers. In Her maternal love of us, She continues to assist us in our following of Him; a consecration to Her Immaculate Heart gives expression to this in a simple way.”

Since I could not be there, I spent time visiting the Blessed Sacrament, where I prayed the Rosary and united myself spiritually with this act of Consecration and it’s associated coronation of the statue. I prayed the Glorious Mysteries, asking for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be hastened by this action of the Cardinal; I have no doubt whatsoever that the Queen of Heaven heard the prayer of the Cardinal, together with the prayers of all those in spiritual union with him. I also have no doubt whatsoever that good will come from what was done yesterday in Her honour, that this act of coronation and consecration will be a conduit of divine grace.

Every single one of can assist in this, and the means have been very simply and clearly laid out by the Mother of God at Fatima – pray the Rosary every day, love God and stop offending Him, live the devotion of the Five First Saturdays of Reparation and ask God’s mercy for sinners. When enough of us listen to and heed Her requests, then the triumph of Her Immaculate Heart will come, as She promised.
